Sorry I've been MIA for awhile. We just finished an addition over our family room, and I finally feel like I can breath again. I will share pictures of the girls new room one of these days, but I still have a few finishing touches to complete.

When the girls moved rooms, Finn moved rooms (to their old room) opening up a room for the new baby. So I've been day dreaming of all kinds of fun kids spaces.

Here are some things I've been pinning to share with you:

I fell in love with this headboard seen on the happy home, and am trying to convince Ryan to build one for Finn's new big boy room.

You all know I love a great party, and this one from call me badger is not only amazing.. it only cost $54!! Thanks to my cute friend Natalie for emailing me the link!

This quote seen on Modern Hepburn had Ryan and I cracking up. I love it!

I loved these necklaces as soon as I saw them. The girls seriously need one. Ok I don't know about need, but anyway.

I am really wishing I could re-create this kids carwash seen on Hip Hip Hooray. It looks like so much fun!

I was at Nordstrom last night and saw these TOMS for the girls. I wanted to buy them so bad, but refrained since they just both got a new pair. I'm crossing my fingers for more fun styles come back to school.

Finally, this nursery totally caught my eye. It's not a color palette I would normally lean towards with a girl, but I find this very refreshing. It has all kinds of ideas spinning in my brain.

Now if only I could come up with a name. I am really struggling this time around. It's our third girl, and it's really throwing me for a loop. Any great name suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I think this laundry basket dresser is a genius way to ease the pain of laundry day. I absolutely want to make it. The tutorial doesn't look too bad either. Bonus!

I am so excited and honored that Brittany asked me to guest post on my son's 2nd birthday!

For my son's second birthday, I decided to take off from his current book obsessed: Dr. Seuss' One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. He brings it to me what seems like 126 times a day to be read. It was a no brainer that this would be the theme for his little party.

Last year, I relied on Etsy a lot for his party decor, so I decided to go back this year. I used the amazing seller, Party on Boutique, for the invitation and cupcake toppers…

We had the party at a park and instead of tablecloths, I actually wrapped the picnic tables in fun wrapping I found at Paper Source. It tied in with the theme perfectly. To add a personal touch, I framed a few of my son's 2-year pictures and had them displayed on the tables.For an added treat, I made some candy coated marshmellow pops. Very simple and very easy. Just put marshmellows on a lollipop stick, melt some candy melts, dip the pop in the melts, dip in sprinkles, and wala! I displayed them in some mason jars filled with swedish fish. They were fun and the kids loved them. When it came to favors, I always love to do something a little different or unique. I found an awesome seller on Etsy, Brown Bag Bath Bars, that makes homemade soaps. She offered to make red and blue, fish shaped, scented soaps. She even threw in some personalized favor tags! By the end of this post, you will see that I have a small addiction to Etsy. When it came down to what the birthday boy was going to wear, I knew I wanted something that reflected his big number 2. Picadilly Circus Designs did his shirt and I just loved it. We didn't really need to plan any activities, since the party was at the park. The kids ran, jumped, skipped and played before it was time to sing Happy Birthday to the little boy of the hour.By the end of the day, the birthday boy was exhausted and ready to head home for naps. It was such a perfect day and we already can't wait for next year!

I saw these spotted eggs on Poppytalk and thought they would be the perfect invite for Lily's egg hunt birthday party. I am super happy with how well they turned out. I spray painted mine and let them dry, then dotted with acrylic paint.

This was the invite rolled up inside the egg.

These are Ryan's very most favorite cookies. They are fun to make, as there is a surprise in the middle, the kids love them, everywhere we've taken them, they receive rave reviews and I've had multiple requests for the recipe, so what better place to put it than on the world wide web? You should make them.. really. They'll make your day!

Peanut Butter Cup Cookies

Cookie:

1 cup butter, softened

3/4 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 cup peanut butter

1 egg

1 tsp vanilla

2 cups flour

1 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

36 Reese's peanut butter cups, unwrapped

Glaze:

2 cups chocolate chips

1/4 cup peanut butter

Combine butter, sugars and peanut butter. Add egg and vanilla. Mix, then add flour, baking soda and salt. Makes a soft dough. Divide dough into 36 balls, push a peanut butter cup into each ball and wrap the dough up around to cover the pb cup. Place on cookie sheet and allow room for cookie to spread while baking. Bake at 375 for 8-10 minutes. Melt glaze ingredients and drizzle or frost center top of each cookie. Enjoy!

I grew up loving my paper dolls. My neighbor and I would spend hours at a time playing with them. I've often wondered why they aren't nearly as popular now. Today when I spotted these paper dolls on NieNie's blog I knew I had to snap some up for my girls.

Right now, as I type this, Ryan is building a play structure in our backyard. It was a promise he made the girls a long time ago. As soon as we bought our next house, he would build them a playset. He was certain he'd have it done in two hours… 12+ hours later he is about half done. I don't think he'd like the idea of starting over from scratch and building me something like this instead….

It's in the imperfection that I find it's perfection.

Made from almost entirely recycled wood and materials.

I think it's perfectly dreamy. Don't you? In fact most things on the new to me blog, the happy home are perfectly dreamy. It's worth your time to browse.

rainbow jell-o.

I must admit, I think that rainbow cupcakes are getting an unfair amount of attention. Not that I haven't made them, because I have, but I would like to introduce you to the less popular rainbow Jell-O… I'm hoping it overtakes the rainbow cupcake in popularity, because it's just soo good.

I know what you're thinking, Jell-O? Good? but I'm asking all my friends who have had the pleasure of trying the rainbow Jell-O to help me out and verify that it is indeed really yummy.

And, while it may look labor intensive, it's really not that bad. Each layer takes about 5 minutes to make, and if you spread it out over a day or two when you have a minute here or a minute there, it doesn't feel at all like you've been slaving in the kitchen for days to make it, but the end result is very impressive.

I think it would make the perfect addition to your "green" dinner tomorrow night.

12 Layer (AKA Rainbow) Jell-O

6 boxes 4 oz Jell-O

2 tubs sour cream

Water

Boil one cup of water. Add one package of Jell-O (this is your bottom layer.. so to make the rainbow, purple) allow Jell-O to disolve. Pour 1/2 cup of Jell-O mixture into a separate bowl and whisk in 1/3 cup sour cream. Pour into bottom of 9x13 pan and refrigerate. Add 3 Tbsp of ice water to Jell-O mixture still in the pan and leave sitting on the counter. After first layer has set up (approx 20-25 minutes) pour remaining Jell-O on top of cream layer and refrigerate until set.

Repeat, Repeat, Repeat, Repeat, Repeat, Top with Whip Cream and serve.

My mom started a tradition when we were young.

We'd pass around a leprechaun bag filled with glitter,

doing good deeds and leaving some dust behind,

for the recipient to pay it forward.

We've started the tradition here at our house too.

I switched out confetti for glitter (easier clean-up)

and we do have a 10 piece limit.

It's so fun seeing the girls think up nice things to do,

and then watching them sneak around trying to pull it off without being caught.

It's one of my favorite traditions from my childhood and I love sharing that with my own little family.

I have nurseries on the brain. I've been collecting pictures and bookmarking beautiful baby spaces. Baby #4 is set to make it's debut sometime the end of July. I'm right about 20 weeks. We find out Tuesday the gender of baby4. Any guesses on gender? So far we have girl, girl, boy.

We are in the early stages of remodeling a kitchen, meaning we are still in the planning stages. Ryan and my styles don't quite match up. I love Meg's kitchen (pictured above), Lindsey's kitchen and Nicole's kitchen (via Lindsey's blog), that I've posted about previously, to name a few.

We used a large kleenex box and a smaller square gift box

I recently received a sample from Sucre. Their holiday macaroon collection. I didn't even want to open the box it was presented so beautifully. Upon opening I was greeted with these bite size macaroons in hot pink and brown, they had a shiny finish and were topped with chocolate drizzle and candy cane. They looked too good to eat, but we ate them anyway.

True story: When my kids first started asking for pillow pets, I told them they needed another stuffed animal like they needed a hole in their head. I know, so nice and loving, right?

They continued asking, talking about them, telling me Santa would bring them one, singing "it's a pillow, it's a pet, it's a pillow pet". I kept envisioning the pillow pet in the bucket of other stuffed animals in the far corners of the basement. They have more stuffed animals than we know what to do with, and never once have I seen them play with them.

When pillow pets approached me with a giveaway, I went ahead, they sent my girls a pillow pet and did I ever eat my words. Those pillow pets have been loved, played with, slept on and used more than any other toy they have.

Are these not the cutest shoes in the world? They are.. I know, because Eleven Collection sent me a pair and Stella has been wearing them all over town, with many many compliments.

How about the Teal Ingrid? I would love to see my girls running around in these. That's what I LOVE about these shoes. Training for this race, which is officially upon us and I am SO not ready. What was I thinking?

Rosanna's Owl Cookies

Ingredients:

This dough is enough to make a large batch of cookies for Halloween school parties or Halloween home parties.

3 cups all-purpose flour

3 tsp. Baking powder

1/2 tsp. Ground sea salt

1 1/2 sticks organic butter

1 1/3 cup white sugar

2 large eggs

4 tsp. vanilla

1/2 package semi-sweet chocolate chips

Mix the dry ingredients well in bowl. Cream the butter and add sugar to dry ingredients. Beat eggs and vanilla separately then add slowly to mixture. Blend well.

Separate the dough. Take approximately 1/3 of the dough and mix in half a package of melted semi-sweet chocolate chips. The dough will become chocolate dough and form a log. Roll the dough very quickly before the chocolate solidifies. Make sure it is a solid roll. Cover with wax paper and put in the refrigerator.

With the remaining vanilla dough (white) roll it out in a long rectangular shape, this dough will be the outer later that will encase the chocolate log. It should resemble a bulls-eye, an outer vanilla layer, with the inner chocolate roll. Wrap the log in wax paper and refrigerate until firm. Wait at least 2 hours or you can freeze the dough a head of time for up to one month.

When ready to assemble the owls place the semi-sweet chocolate chip in a small bowl for easy access. Place the cashews in another small bowl.

(If there are nut allergies you can substitute with candy corn for the nose)

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Grease the cookie sheets with butter. Cut the logs into 1/8-slices. On the cookie sheet join the two slices together, by pinching them. Slightly pinch the two opposite sides of the rounds into pointy ear shapes. Place a chocolate chip upside down in the center of each chocolate eye. Then place the cashew embedded into the center of the two joined circles. It is now complete.

Continue the same process. Place the cookies about 2 inches apart. Bake at 375 degrees, for about 10 minutes. Watch closely until lightly browned. Remove and cool on a cookie rack.

Have a nice large tin to pack away between layers or waxed paper. Keep the tin in a cool place until Halloween or freeze the cookies a head of time. Be careful not to fill the containers too full, to avoid breaking the two halves. Serve on a shiny Black cake pedestal for a very spooky effect.

Leave it to Martha Stewart to have the perfect tutorial for changing a fitted sheet. I used to crumple mine up in a ball and throw them in the linen closet so frustrated that no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get it to lay nice. Then I happened upon this tutorial and it has changed laundry day forever. I hope it works wonders for you as well.

I recently helped in the planning and execution of an outdoor garden birthday party. I don't think the night could have been more perfect. We hauled out every piece of white/cream furniture I own, begged and borrowed from other friends and in the end, it looked like a party tailored specifically to the guest of honor.

I loved having it outside, with the twinkling lights and night falling, the girly fresh summer food, yummy salads and of course the cake. As it got colder we bundled up under fluffy pink down comforters, passed the candy dishes around the circle and laughed the night away.

I love lemon. No really. Pretty much anything with lemon (or lime) makes me happy. These chicken skewers do not disappoint. We recently served them at a backyard garden party, and received many requests for the recipe. They were cold at the party, but are great fresh off the grill as well. Perfect for a shower, luncheon or birthday party. Enjoy.

Lemon Fennel Chicken Skewers with Peanut Sauce

1 Tbs. fennel seeds

Zest of two lemons

1/3 c. fresh lemon juice

1/4 c. honey

1/3 c. olive oil

4 tsp. salt

3 lb. boneless, skinless chicken breast or thighs, cut into 1 inch cubes

In small saute pan over medium-high heat, toast fennel seeds, stirring frequently, until fragrant, about 4 minutes. Transfer to a small bowl; cool 5 minutes. Using spice grinder (I just used the end of my rolling pin) finely grind seeds. Transfer to a large bowl. Add lemon zest, lemon juice, honey, olive oil and salt; whisk to combine. Add chicken, cover and refrigerate 6 hours - or overnight.

Thread chicken onto wooden skewers. Cook on medium high grill 8-10 minutes, turning twice to grill on all sides. Serves 6.

Peanut Sauce

1 can unsweetened coconut milk

1 Tbs. light brown sugar

1 Tbs. Thai red curry paste

1 Tbs. fish sauce

1 tsp. grated fresh ginger

1 clove garlic, minced

1/2 cup crunchy peanut butter

In small sauce pan, cook coconut milk, brown sugar, curry paste, fish sauce, ginger and garlic over medium heat. Bring to a simmer and cook 2 more minutes.

Reduce heat to low and stir in peanut butter. Cook for 3 more minutes, or until peanut butter is well blended. Serve warm.

I've had some requests for an update, I'm sorry I didn't get to it sooner, there is not a lot of leisure time (if any) and by the time you get back to your room at 7:30 you are ready to crash.

The days are all structured very similarly. On the first day they sent everyone on hikes and the guides evaluated the members that were hiking with them. You were then assigned a van based on your fitness level. We got the perfect group.

I have to say I am not a huge fan of hiking, but every day I love it! I can not even believe the things we have climbed. It is CRAZY! I have officially started looking forward to the hikes every morning.

After you hike for 2.5+ hours, you return for your 300 calorie breakfast. The food has continued to be amazingly delicious, the presentation beautiful and 100% filling. There is no food I miss. Truly.

We have had multiple lectures and classes that are educational and beyond valuable. I feel so well educated. I never could have imagined I would learn so much in just four short days.

We typically have one class in the morning after breakfast and lecture. It could be circuit training, stretch, open gym etc.

We then head to lunch, 400 calories

After lunch there is usually another lecture or cooking demonstration

Then the fun begins. 3 hours of the trainers working you to death. Seriously. You are exhausted. They make sure it is fun and motivational and there hasn't been a class that I haven't given my all, all because of the amazing trainers. In the 3 hour block there is always a class in the pool, a class in the gym (with machines and equipment) and a class in the aerobics room.

After the three hours of intense classes is dinner and dessert, 500 calories.

Then a nutritionist comes in for an hour long lecture. She is extremely knowledgeable and so great.

Then you go to bed. Seriously. You are so tired.

Now, today something so exciting happened. I couldn't believe my eyes when at the end of our gym class the door swung open and there stood Tara from season 7 (she was in town for a speaking engagement and only here for an hour). My favorite biggest loser ever. I was freaking out. In this picture is Eric (winner of season 3), he is so nice and totally hilarious, also Tara, and the girl in the middle was the one Daris chose from the 5k in Dallas this season to come for a week. How cool is that. It totally made my week.

This has been one of the best weeks (so far) of my life. I have enjoyed every moment of it. If you have thought about coming here I would absolutely say, DO IT! You will not regret it. It is absolutely worth the investment in yourself.

Hi! I'm April from Funky Vintage Kitchen and I am so excited to share with you a baby shower I planned for a dear friend!

My friend has a love for anything hip, modern and vintage so I wanted to incorporate all of those things into her first baby shower. My inspiration was a sweet mommy/baby vintage style deer that I had seen at an antique store, but I only had a picture of it in my head. I also wanted to use the color theme of her nursery for her shower. I emailed my friend, Lyndsay, who is an amazing designer and she brought to life exactly what I imagined in my head for the invitation. She has been so gracious to include a downloadable file for you all to enjoy and use for personal use only! Here is the invite and pictures from the evening of the baby shower.

Now on to the rest of the party.
Pom pom tissue paper balls in orange, blue and green greeted guests at the front door with little jelly jar candles tied with coordinating ribbons.

I used the deer clip art theme throughout the whole shower. I made coasters out of thick card stock, cropped them to squares and then rounded the corners.

Keeping with the color theme, I wrapped all the water bottles with the same clip art in white, orange and blue and also served izze's in mandarin orange.

More tissue paper balls inside the house.

And, more jelly/mason jars, ribbon & tulips.

The buffet table draped in the perfect baby blue and white seersucker tablecloth borrowed from a local event planner.

I had seen cupcake liners used in banners, but at the buffet table I really wanted a mobile type decoration for the baby shower. I gathered a few extra coasters, twine and cupcake liners in baby blue and strung the twine through the cupcake liners, tying them off at different intervals.

The food was perfect for the party and for the most part....all finger foods.

Caesar salad cups, veggie platter, caramelized bacon wraps & prosciutto wrapped asparagus. The salad cups are so easy....just place dressing at the bottom of the cup with a few leafs of romaine lettuce, some parmesan cheese sprinkled on top of the dressing and a toasted cheese stick topping it off. So easy to just pick up and dip.

....and more food thanks to a great group of friends!

Hawaiian meatballs, pulled pork sandwiches & caramelized onion cheese puffs.

We played just two games.

The first was the "estimated time of delivery" game.

Little plastic babies were frozen in ice cubes the day before the shower. when a guest entered the party, they received an ice-cube in a cup and had to write on the cup their estimated time of delivery. {if the guest gets the ice-cube at 6:30pm and she thinks it will deliver in 15 minutes, she should write down 6:45 on her cup.} it is important that each guest get their baby upon arrival and not all at the same time. they need to look at the clock and guess what the actual time will be when they deliver the baby from the ice-cube. the person closest to the estimated time of delivery wins!

We also used little play-dohs to make babies. the mommy-to-be was the judge and there was a time limit for creating a baby from the play-doh. This one was complete with bottle and toys with baby sitting and sucking his thumb. So sweet. And, speaking of sweet......

After presents it was time for dessert. All different mini desserts. So yummy.

The baby shower was so sweet and perfect and I was thrilled that it all came together exactly how I imagined it. How often does that happen....really?! Thank you, Brittany, for letting me share my Oh Baby Dear baby shower. What a treat!

After a very very long day of travel, my mom and I arrived here. I didn't know if I was going to blog about it, but there is no way I can't, it is just way too amazing.

Yesterday we started the day with a 6:30 am hike, do you know how many calories I burned 1267. You did read that right. Holy amazing!!

We had a breakfast of 267 calories, followed by a lecture on emotional eating. We then went to the most killer swim class I have ever been too.

We had a small break and then lunch. They served a massive bowl of delicious chili and some cornbread. No one could eat the whole thing. Total calories 417.

After lunch another lecture on budget as in calorie budget, not money.

Then three hours of grueling workouts. We started with circuit training, then step and puke.. I mean pump, and finally finished with total body hydration, meaning in the deep end the entire time.

Do you know who was in my class with me? One of the winners from the real Biggest Loser. He is HILARIOUS!!

Dinner was purple potatoes, asparagus and chicken, with grilled pineapple for dessert, total calories 383.

Final Calorie count for the day 1125 (with two pieces of fruit on the hike), final calories burned for the day nearly 4000.

We fell into bed exhausted and if you can believe it, I am incredibly excited to do it all over again today. This may be the "funnest" trip I've ever been on.

Thursday morning 10:45 am, I decided to ignore all responsibility and jump on a plane to Portland. I had to leave the house by 11:15, have my kids squared away and my bag packed. It was a crazy morning.

The end result, a perfect evening with friends and family. Just what I've been needing. I flew home a short 18 hours after landing.

Today I am sitting in the Las Vegas airport. I am waiting for my mom who is flying in from Portland. Once she arrives we will get on a shuttle and make our way to St. George, Utah.

I'd love to hear what crazy sporadic things you've been up to..

*posting may be spotty depending on conditions once we arrive. I'm hoping to be able to blog, it should be an amazing and life changing week.

Hello fabulous T&T people!

I'm elizabeth. I'm a Mom of 4, photographer and blogger @ {a thousand words}. I'm also really happy to be here on a Wednesday to share my daughter's recent birthday party!

The theme for this 4 year old was "Charlotte in Wonderland". This Alice theme is SO 2010, don't you think? I fully embraced the popularity of Alice in Wonderland and found lots of inspiration around the internet.

The Entry:

Guests walked up our front path passing a "This Way" sign & an oversized balloon. Also on the path were large tissue flowers attached to garden stakes. No photos, sorry. I forgot those!

The Photo Booth:

In my entry way, I set up a simple photo booth. Ikea fabric pinned to the wall adjacent to the front door. Each of the guests had their portrait taken with Charlotte as they arrived. I'll send a copy of each child's photo along with their thank you note.

The Craft:

While we waited for everyone to arrive, I had a craft table set up to make Mad Hatter hats. I spray painted grocery bags to create the base. The kids used foam stickers & dot painting pens to decorate. I would have liked more elaborate hat decor (glitter, feathers, etc.), but I was catering to a 3-4 year old crowd!

The Lunch:

No Wonderland party would be complete without a tea party! I had the most fun decorating this table. Lanterns are Luna Bazaar. Mini tea sets are Ikea.

The Activities:

Instead of a cake walk we had a "Cheshire Cat Walk". Everyone eventually won a dollar spot prize. We also played a simple "Pin the Clock on the White Rabbit" game. Lastly, during the last 10 minutes of the party, we watched a few clips from Disney's Alice in Wonderland DVD.

The Favor:

On their way out, each guest took home a little box with a button Alice necklace.

I don't know a lot of people that look forward to swimsuit shopping, but I do know that I look forward to seeing Downeast's swimwear line every year. They recently launched their 2010 line-up and it's pretty great.

With multiple mix and match tops and bottoms, as well as a few ruffly skirts to hide those trouble spots, I think there is something for everyone.

I had a hard time deciding which suit to choose. In the end I had them send me the Mediterranean tank and bottoms. The suit is lined with supportive cups that actually work, and the nylon/spandex was the perfect blend for holding you in in all the right places.

Stella: Fairy Party.

Once upon a time

In the land of Fairies…

Lived a beautiful birthday fairy,

who was very determined to plan the perfect fairy party,

and plan she did.

All Stella wanted for her birthday was a fairy party. She was so excited about it, there was no talking her out of it. So we set the table in pink and purple (fairy colors according to Stella)

and prepared the chairs to take flight ,

(having the wings on the back of the chairs was Stella's idea.

I thought it was the perfect addition to the party decor!)

We prepared food fit for Fairies,

and made pink and chocolate cupcakes,

but the cupcakes needed purple too, so Stella chose butterflies to stick in the top of each cupcake.

The party girls earned each piece of their fairy set throughout the party. By the end they were equipped with a skirt, wings, head piece and wand.

We hunted for fairy houses and things to decorate our fairy houses with, we applied fairy shimmer and wrote fairy messages in sidewalk chalk. We had fairy dancing, colored wooden fairies, and played pin the fairy on the flower.

At the end they graduated from Fairy school and became "real" fairies.

Stella thought she planned the perfect party.

Today's party is my own daughters.. I didn't want to wait any longer to post pictures.

I have to say, I love the way Lily's party turned out. It was everything I hoped it would be, and every guest showed up! I couldn't have been happier. I have received more thank you notes (from Lily) in the last 4 days than I have in my entire life. She was SO happy. It made the whole thing worth it. The table setting (pre-food)

This banner was a last minute decision. I was going to make a big fancy one and ran out of time. I flattened the cupcake papers, printed the letters for happy birthday on my computer and sized them to fit the center circle. It turned out perfect!

The cupcake tower. I hand-cut paper doll dresses and attached them to toothpicks.

My mom found this paper doll fabric and made an apron for each girl. After their lunch, each girl was outfitted with an apron, glue stick, scissors and all the paper/embellishments they could ever want. We had pre-cut large paper dolls and we put them to work designing their own outfit. The girls LOVED it and spent a good 30-40 minutes cutting and gluing.

Finally the take home (in addition to the apron, scissors and glue). I found these gift card boxes at Michaels. I hand cut paper dolls and their outfits and stuck them to an adhesive magnet sheet. Each girl went home with their own magnetic paper doll and outfits. (tutorial here).

Never before have my girls had holes in their jeans, until now. In the last couple months they have worn holes in nearly every pair of jeans they have. It is hard to want to go out and buy them brand new jeans when the summer is upon us, and by fall they will probably be too short.

My amazing friend (and puj owner/designer) Katie, recently started her own puj blog. There you will find this easy and stylish tutorial to patch jeans. I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my sewing machine (still in storage in WA) so the girls jeans can last a little longer.

They pretty much look like they were meant to have that patch. No?

bowling/candy party.

My sister in law throws an amazing party. Sadly this is the first one we missed, but she promised me she'd take lots of pictures and she came through!

She asked Sawyer what he wanted to do for his 4th birthday, his answer "a candy bowling party". That may seem tricky, but Kelly did a great job.

The guests first met in their backyard for cake and ice cream, and plenty of candy for the guests to take home.

The close up details. Every detail was perfect (including the birthday boys matching shirt). After cake, ice cream, candy and presents the guests headed over to the local bowling alley for some bowling fun.

At the end of the day Kelly asked Sawyer what the best part of his day had been, his answer "everything". I think he's right. His mom did a pretty great job.

Someday we'll live next to each other again and start our own party planning business.

girls room.

My girls used to have these really cute rooms, but then we moved, and then we moved again.. and again.. and maybe we moved one more time. I kind of gave up on making their room cute. I had an idea of what I wanted, but never pulled it fully together. I figured why put a bunch of effort into it when we're just going to move again. I know.. lame mom I am!

So this move is feeling a little more permanent, and I'm determined as ever to give the girls the room I've been envisioning. I want their bed to be soft and fluffy and ruffly. They have a pale pink down comforter, an antique cream amazing bed, and the most beautiful white euro shams (made by Ryan's incredible aunt).

I found this fabric over a year ago and loved the green, grey and pink to use as accent colors for their room. It covers the seat on the bench in their room (made out of an antique headboard).

Restoration Hardware recently launched a kids line. My friend is decorating her nursery and came upon this grey ruffled bed skirt. It is the perfect piece to tie the bench and the bedding together. It has totally inspired me. Amazing how one thing can do that. I can't wait to order it.

and tonight I found this hettle pillow that is perfect for their bed. I also can't wait to order this.

I'll post pictures when their room officially comes together. It's so nice to finally have some inspiration and desire. What inspires you and get's your creative juices flowing?

*also, I figure Denver is sunny enough to pull off grey paint in their bedroom. That was not the case in the NW. So if you have a great tried and true grey paint color, I'd love to hear it! Thanks in advance.

I haven't had anything to do since moving. So I took on the massive project of hand making/cutting these paper doll invites for Lily's birthday. I really love them though, and I'm glad I did. I'm hoping that the invitation will get people to bring their kids even though we're so new. Hopefully it works cause I'll have one very sad little girl if it doesn't.

Stella changed from a rainbow party to a fairy party at the last minute, I had big ideas, but honestly after the time I spent on Lily's I had to come up with something a little easier for her. I still think they turned out cute.

Let's hope I can pull their parties together in the next week!

I have a thing for lemon. These are good.. like so good I wanted to eat the entire platter at my friends baby shower. Good thing the hostess was willing to pass along the recipe.

Lemon Spritz Cookies

(I didn't spritz, just scooped)

110 grams butter, room temperature

90 grams sugar

3 egg yolks

1/4 tsp lemon extract

zest of one lemon (I used meyer lemons)

180 grams flour

2 grams salt

Cream the butter, sugar, lemon zest and lemon extract together until well combined. Add the yolks and mix until combined. Add the flour and salt and mix.

Scoop tsp size balls onto baking sheet. Bake at 350 for about 12 minutes.

Lemon Icing

3/4 c powdered sugar, sifted

1/4 c butter

1 tsp lemon zest

1 tsp freshly squeezed lemon juice

Cream butter and lemon zest on low setting with paddle attachment until blended. Slowly add powdered sugar until combined. Add lemon juice and mix until well combined.

Frost and stick two cookies together. Enjoy!

I have three boys. While planning our most recent party, I wanted to do something different because we've already done every single super hero party, legos, star wars and all the typical little boy themed parties. My son loves to play games. I took his love for games and turned it into a super easy birthday party.

The invitation.

These tickets went a long way.
I bought these at Zurcher's for about $3.00.
Best three bucks I've ever spent!

I used the tickets to wrap around the party favor bag.
In the bag were games and candy for the kids to take home.

I bought 3 decks of childrens playing cards at Walgreens ($6 total) and stapled them to a white ribbon to make a banner. I also strung some of the tickets above the table.

I used game boards, the party favors and cupcakes as table decorations.

I used scrabble letters to spell out "Happy Birthday, Parker."

I also put each child's initial at a place setting.
The kids loved trying to look for the first letter in their name.

I set out dice, letters and cards from games so that the kids had something to do while they were waiting for cupcakes and ice cream. They loved this and actually thought this was one of the game stations.

We had the boys do a few different game stations.

Video games

Air hockey

Basketball
{they also played saucer scramble and random board games that I had set up in the family room}.

My son absolutely loved the party and so did all his friends!

Heathered Chenille Jute Rug

The last few days have been spent searching for rugs. The main floor of our new house is entirely hardwood. The floors are beautiful but I am in serious need of rugs. I have searched and shopped, bought and returned and I am striking out.

Andalusia Rug

Ryan brought home a rug from Costco tonight, I don't like it, but it was $100 and it serves it's purpose. I am anxiously awaiting the day Ryan's rug moves to the basement and something fabulous replaces it as I'm still on the hunt for something perfect.

I never knew shopping for rugs could be so frustrating.

*I want a natural fiber rug, but that's not comfortable for the kids to lay on or play games on.

*Spending $$$ for something to lay on your floor and walk on is hard to do.

*If I buy a patterned rug will it clash with the floral chair and look too busy?

*There are a lot of weird sizes. Why aren't there more 8x10's?

*Rugs really are needed to pull the room together.. who knew?

We're coming to you T+T readers. I have only seen things online, I have never tried them myself, so if you've done digital scrapbooking, made a baby book of your own, seen a friend or family members that you think is great... let us know! I'm thinking this may be the route I go for Finn.

Peaches and Owls Party

Hello! I'm Kallie from Kallie Brynn Photography and I'm honored to be guest posting today to share my daughter's first birthday party. As a photographer with a love for design, I jumped at the chance to test my event design skills.

I started several months early by designing the invitation - mainly peach with a bit of pink.

I had wanted so badly to have the party outside. I planned to string lanterns and poms across our lawn from our big oak tree to our porch. The natural light and crisp winter air were supposed to be perfect.

And then it was freezing. And gloomy. In central Florida. Two days before the party, I just knew it wasn't going to happen outside, so it was time to accept that fact and work to make the best possible adjustments for indoors.

We moved all of the furniture out of the front of our house and into our garage and back rooms. Then we tacked massive sheets of white fabric to the ceiling to cover the main walls. It was quite a nice transformation.

I started with the color scheme and added owls for fun. The peaches and pinks were quite pretty. The bamboo plates, platters, and sporks were from www.greenfeet.com. I found the large 36" white balloons (and tiny pink heart ones) on amazon.com.

I made the cake topper - painted the wooden girl and put one of the tablecloth fabrics on her as a dress. The bow is made from the twine I used on the owl lollipops, cup tags, and balloons. The little girl and "t" are affixed and I set the rose bud and owl on top. The owl was from my Grandmother, who passed away in November.

The cupcakes were made from recipes in the book Organic and Chic. The icings were amazing; the cakes were okay. The two chocolates together were way too intense. Maybe had the icings been swapped, they would have been better. Baking supplies were from Bake It Pretty and Ultimate Baker.

Owl lollipops made from scratch. The cow milk glasses are from shopterrain.com. We love them and use them every day now. The owl shortbread butter cookies from Organic and Chic melted in your mouth. Love that recipe! And a bunch of peaches.

IBC cream soda and root beer. Pink raspberry lemonade for the jars. The mason jars with floral cut-out lids (from Candle Soylutions) had white paper straws and tags that said "_________ is using this cup." We also had fresh coffee and warm apple cider.

I won the party hats by babydarling from a giveaway on martawrites blog. So very cute!

We set up a little table for the kids to make their own paper owls. "Owl make an owl!" I cut up the different pieces in several colors so the kiddos could mix and match and make their owls how they wanted.

Our good friend, Matt Hires, came and sang "You are my Sunshine" and "Happy Birthday" for Tova.
